My good friend Jordan, the lovely Jenny and I went out to have some good old fashion photo fun the other day to test some new gear and to check out a place we have been dying to go to. We had a great time and here a few of my fans from the shoot! Hope you enjoy them…
For the Geeks: I recently purchased an Alien Bee 800 Ring Flash. I have to say I love it!! This first 3 images are using it in it’s traditional way with the lens through the hole in the flash to create that “ring flash” look. The last 3 shots I used it as a normal light off camera. These shots had no additional modifiers on them, just the diffusion shell built in to the unit. It’s not quite powerful enough to completely over power the sun but you could if you were close enough to the subject with it. What I like is that unlike my 1600, it gets pretty low power to allow you to mix light more in lower light situations like the last shot in the set. And the light is surprisingly soft for not having any additional modifiers on it! Needless to say a new favorite toy… I mean Highly sophisticated piece of gear…
